Dr. Dominik Roeser brings extensive international experience in building and leading strong national and international networks and projects focused on academic excellence, innovation delivery and implementation. Dominik recently served as Senior Director for FPInnovations – the world’s largest not-for-profit forestry sector research organization – where he led R&D operations and staff across Canada and was responsible for strategic research and organizational planning, innovation implementation with industry, federal and provincial governments, academia and indigenous communities. He held several management positions at FPInnovations and the Finnish Forest Research Institute dealing with forest operations, forest feedstock availability and supply chain design. He is currently Associate Professor of Forest Operations at the University of British Columbia
Ron Corbeil has worked in the forest industry since 1973 working as a forestry crewman, chokerman, layout engineer and log scaler. Ron then went on to work for the union that represented forestry workers where he worked in the field of health and safety for over 20 years. Working for union Ron has been involved in training, research, inspections, investigations and inquests in the forest industry. Ron investigated a number of fatal incidents involving hand fallers. Ron continues to work on forest industry health and safety since his retirement in 2016, receiving the Cary White Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018.
Madison Elliott holds an M.A. in Clinical Psychology, a Ph.D. in Cognitive Science from the University of British Columbia. She has nearly a decade of professional experience in User Experience Research, and is working for Google Health in San Francisco. Her dissertation research focused on understanding human visual perception - she investigated how "high level" tasks and goals influence "low level" visual processing, particularly in the case of perceiving statistical information in data displays. Madison is dedicated to applying her academic knowledge to improving user outcomes in outdoor safety, health information and technology.
